Fields of Mistria: How to Get and Upgrade Your Pickaxe

Fields of Mistria Header
Gameplay telemetry and reference asset for Fields of Mistria.

The Pickaxe is a core excavation implement in Fields of Mistria, unlocked on your second morning and upgradable through five tiers.

To secure your starter tool, fulfill Olric's Day Two errand titled 'Do a Bro a Favor'. Olric can generally be found at the Blacksmith shop in northwest Mistria, though opening the Map pinpoints his whereabouts. In early play, your Pickaxe can dig up treasure spots, meaning there is no rush to buy a shovel, saving money for other essentials.

Do not confuse this starter tool with Errol's lost pickaxe. Checking the Noticeboard may yield a request from Olric to locate Errol's pickaxe in the Mines. Known as the Miner's Pickaxe, it is located on floors 1-20 in the Upper Mines. You must use a Pickaxe or Shovel on dig spots to unearth it, as it is an Artifact rather than usable equipment.

Players can upgrade their Pickaxe at the forge or buy upgrades from the Blacksmith. The Copper Pickaxe smashes big rocks across 3 tiles in a straight row (costs 4 Copper Ingots, 30 min, level 4 Blacksmithing, or 1000t). The Iron Pickaxe strikes a 3-by-3 tile area (4 Iron Ingots, 30 minutes, level 10, or 2000t). The Silver Pickaxe covers a 3-by-6 area (4 Silver Ingots, 40 minutes, level 16, or 3000t). The Golden Pickaxe covers a 6-by-6 area (4 Golden Ingots, 40 minutes, level 26, or 4000t). The Mistril Pickaxe strikes a 3-by-9 area (4 Mistril Ingots, 40 minutes, level 28, or 5000t).
