Dressmaker: How to Recycle Fabric and Undo Cuts

Recycling fabric and undoing mistakes in Dressmaker is straightforward using the cutting room scrap bin, saving creators from costly restarts.
Undoing Cuts Using the Table Scrap Bin
In Dressmaker, making a bad cut or selecting the wrong fabric does not mean your valuable textile is wasted. If you are dissatisfied with a cut panel, drag it directly into the scrap bin icon located in the cutting room. This action completely cancels the cut, returns the pattern piece to paper form, and restores the underlying fabric back onto your roll for immediate reuse.
The Irreversible Discard Fabric Boundary
While the bin provides unlimited cut reversals under standard conditions, there is one critical limitation: using the Discard Fabric tool. Once you use Discard Fabric to sever and trim off a used slice from the roll, that fabric is gone for good. While dragging panels into the bin will still revert them to paper patterns, the severed fabric metres never come back. Standard scissors only cut out pieces, so keep the discard shears put away until you are completely sure of your choices.
Recycling Already-Sewn Panels
If a panel is already attached to the dress, follow the procedure for swapping a piece's material. Loose cut components remaining on the cutting table return to your bag beforehand. You can always recut or discard unwanted panels; as long as the used roll portion has not been sliced away, the underlying yardage is fully restored to your stock.
Converting Excess Stock into Gold
Because Dressmaker does not permit selling surplus fabric bolts directly back to the store, unneeded inventory must be liquidated through crafting. Any uncut metres remain safely stored on your rolls. If you wish to convert surplus rolls or trimmings into cash, construct off-the-rack garments and choose Sell As Off-Rack on the photo screen to recover materials expenses and labour rewards.
When preparing to clean up a cutting table, any cut pieces still resting on the cloth roll are safely returned to your inventory drawer before discard cuts execute. If your studio ever runs completely out of funds due to discarded materials, remember that Burlap is available for 0 gold at the Emporium, providing a reliable zero-cost foundation to rebuild cash reserves.
Understanding the distinction between safe scissor cutting and permanent discard slicing ensures that your workshop maintains high fabric efficiency and avoids losing fabric metres you still need for future projects.
